DDOS has been a constant plague since a couple of years. With constantly new peeks in volumes : bits per second and packets per second. Telenet Business has been involved in the mitigation of DDOS attacks targeted against customers. This provided insight on how attackers prepare their attacks and we have observed how security equipment copes with these attacks. This presentation addresses three aspects of DDOS mitigation : 1) in the cloud / at ISP side 2) by on-site equipment (firewall, IPS, dedicated anti-DDOS device) 3) constant evaluation of what is happening, even testing the defenses Internet connectivity via Telenet is not mandatory for our team. Telenet Business consultants advice any customer on how to improve robustness against DDOS. If connected elsewhere, we will still recommend what collaboration should be provided by your ISP, in addition to what you can and should prepare locally.
Marc Lampo is a Principal Security Consultant at Telenet Business. He advices customers on designs, installations and configures firewalls, email and DNS servers. He is a strong advocate of “security by design” and he has >30 years of experience with computer networks. Within the team, Marc follows the evolution in the areas of IPv6, email, IP address management (and DNS), DDOS. Marc holds several certifications – Check Point firewalls, Infoblox IPAM and DNS.
